Home office flooring 1

*This is a collaborative post.

Since Covid transformed the way we work, there have been many more of us converting unused rooms into offices. We have created our own workspaces that, whilst situated within our houses, give us a feeling that we never in fact left the office in the first place.
The only thing perhaps missing is the random birthday cakes bought in, or the office banter that helps make work environments so enjoyable. But maybe you haven’t got around to making a home office yet, instead, you have perhaps been making use of a kitchen table or another area that you have designated as your workplace between 9am-5pm. We all know that this isn’t always a viable option. Especially when the kids return from school around 3 pm and the ambience is suddenly broken.

Or maybe you have started on the home office plan, but it is still missing something. In many cases, we just stick a desk and a laptop in an empty room and just get to work. This isn’t always best though, a correctly set up home office can not only reduce stress but can also improve productivity and potentially increase your house value when you come to sell it.
With that in mind, we looked at three flooring types you should be considering when you come to transform your home office into something special.

What is the best choice of flooring for a home office?

Later in this article, we will cover three floor types you could consider for your home office, but before you get down to that part of the project you may want to consider what your office will be for so that you can make the right decisions.
You want a home office floor that suits the style of furniture you have; modern furniture styles will very quickly look out of place on a vintage floor for example.

You will also need to weigh up if this is just an office or also a place where you may potentially have clients or colleagues visiting. The first impression your home office creates could be the difference between a successful meeting or an interview. If the visitors were to be welcomed into an area with stained floors or too much noise, it could very quickly transform their opinions of you and of the business.
Getting it right, as we mentioned earlier on, will not only help your productivity and therefore everyone else at the business but could also help reduce stress and help gain an increased value on your property.

Using LVT flooring in your home office

LVT, or Luxury Vinyl Tiling can be a great choice for your home office. Durable, affordable, stylish and easy to maintain, an LVT floor ticks boxes from the off and can give your home office a variety of effects in an array of styles.
With wood, stone or abstract designs possible, and a host of amazing patterns and finishes too, this type of vinyl flooring gives your room a splash of character that you may have not first thought possible.
Able to be installed with underfloor heating, able to withstand high levels of foot traffic and able to handle the movement of your office chair without causing damage to the floor, the addition of LVT flooring to your office can be a worthwhile investment.
Add in that it is a low-maintenance flooring that only requires a simple sweep and mop and that split coffee or dropped lunch is never really a concern.

Using solid wood flooring in your home office

A solid wood floor is often preferred by many, its authentic look, durable quality, and its effortless class all help point people in the direction of selecting this floor type.
With a long life span it’s an investment that can prove to be very cost-effective as the likelihood of needing to replace it is slim. At the same time, the levels of maintenance are like that of LVT flooring as long as you are careful. The solid wood floors are solid to a point but can scratch quite easily.  This then means you may need to put in a little more effort to restore it to its best but have no fear, the restoration of these floors is nothing complicated and can help enhance the lifespan of your home office floor.
With the scratching risk being relatively high you would need to consult the flooring company you are planning to use to find out what type of wood will work best for the usage and footfall your office is likely to have. With many manufacturers offering flooring constructed to high quality, you shouldn’t find yourself struggling to find something suitable and affordable.

Using laminate flooring for your home office

Laminate flooring can offer you a fantastic choice for your home office and much like the LVT we mentioned earlier, can replicate other materials in its appearance. Whether it be a stone or wood look you are after, you can create the desired effect with laminate flooring for your home office. Sharing other similarities with the vinyl tiling floor, laminate also proves easy to maintain, durable and totally versatile. You could adopt laminate in pretty much any room, and it would look good.

Perhaps the main drawback is that laminate flooring isn’t the best at absorbing sound. This can make your office sound louder than necessary and prove a distraction. This can then make the project cost a little more as you would have to install a high-quality underlay to help soak up the sound that this hollower floor type helps volumise.

So with this list of three options, which one are you choosing to transform your spare room into a premium workspace?
