world book day

It’s no surprise that our bookcase is bulging with all different genres of books. We are all bookworms in our home. I love how the boys share our love of books, and regular visits to our local library always sees us heading home with all kinds of books, from resources for home schooling to bedtime stories. Introducing the boys to books at a very young age has certainly payed off.

What we’ve been reading recently

Jayden has been enjoying Roald Dahl’s Collection. He is loving this set at the moment, just as I did when I was younger. His favourites so far are The BFG and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It’s no surprise that he loves the films just as much too.

World Book Day

Every little bookworm loves World Book Day. Getting to dress up as their favourite characters from books. There really are some fab kids dressing up costumes out there to choose from. Not just for World Book Day of course, but for everyday play. It’s fab for encouraging role play. I think Rubies costumes really bring fantasy to life with their dressing up range. From a pretty princess to a horrid Henry, anything is possible.

Jayden has always loved dressing up, especially when he was in his toddler years and I’m sure Joben will be the same. We have had a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle hanging out in the house, a PJ masks Gekko drop kicking the baddies and even the BFG has been spotted! Even us big kids have been known to go to a few fancy dress parties.

Children can get inspired to write their own stories by using a name generator to get them started. I wonder what amazing story your little one/s will create?

Who will your little one be for World Book Day? Let me know in the comments.

  1. I’m still not sure about our World Book Day costumes. Naomie always wants to be Spiderman and Leyla always wants to be Hermione so we’ll see if we get any variety this year or stick to the same old 😉

  2. Hi Jayne, Roald Dahl books are fantastic and I love your box set. Ours was nowhere near as bright and colourful. When I was pregnant I was more excited about collecting books to read with my two than cute clothes and we spent many hours enjoying books together. Micheal Morpurgo has to be one of the best authours for children’s books out there, his books are so well written…. Jayden looks good as the BFG, I love his cheeky smile.

  3. I have never dressed up for world book day before but I do love seeing all the kids dress up as there favourite book character. I would dress up as harry potter.

  4. For some reason, my daughter’s school no longer does anything for World Book Day, which is a bit of a mixed blessing really. Oh one hand I don’t have to faff around trying to sort out a costume, but on the other, it seems a real shame they don’t celebrate such a fab day. She went as one of the 101 Dalmations one year, but goodness only knows what she would want to go as now. Great post and good to see those Roald Dahl books #MMBC x
