Pandemic Board Game Review

Pandemic Age 10+ Years

It’s a bit of a cliche isn’t it? Just going through a pandemic ourselves and then reviewing a game with the same scenario!
Matt Leacock’s international award-wining game is all about preventing disease outbreaks and saving humanity. Gameplay takes around 45 minutes and is suitable for 2-4 players.

What You Get In The Box –

• 7 Role cards
• 7 Pawns
• 59 Player cards
• 4 Reference cards
• 48 Infection cards
• 96 Disease cubes
• 4 Cure markers
• 1 Infection rate marker
• 1 Outbreaks marker
• 6 Research stations

You, along with the other players in the game are members of a disease control team. You have to work together using your characters individual skills to prevent disease. There are 4 deadly diseases that can potentially contaminate humanity.

Players will travel the globe to treat infections and find resources for cures. The diseases can spread and these are represented by the coloured disease cubes.

Each player’s turn consists of 4 actions, drawing two player cards and infecting cities. Ideas and opinions can be shared to try and defeat the diseases together.
Of course, there can be challenges along the way such as picking up an Epidemic Card which can immediately infect one city. They also increase the number of infection cards drawn on the next turn!

We really enjoyed playing Pandemic. My eldest is 10 and he could understand the rules and played along easily albeit with a little help from time to time.
It’s a nice activity for all of the family to play because it requires teamwork to overcome the Pandemic. The box isn’t too big either so you could take it along on family breaks perhaps if you are staying in a caravan.
