I’ve been enjoying doing a few crafts whilst we are spending so much time at home. I think it’s a great distraction to get stuck into a project. This is a really simple make and is great for using up leftover material that you may have lying around. I had some fat quarters leftover and thought that my old crocheted peg bag had seen better days so decided to make a new one. Of course, you don’t need to have fat quarters, any material will do. An old pillowcase would be perfect or even an old sheet. I made my bag 40cm wide and 45cm deep, but you can make yours whatever size you like.
Take the material and pin the face sides together so that you are working inside out. Mark the angle of the coat hanger on the top piece and also the slit for the opening.
I used one of the kids’ old hangers and cut off the bottom part.
Separate the two panels so that you can make the opening. Cut the slit and turn over 5mm. I then popped the material on the sewing machine and sewed the hem around the opening.
Pin the front to the back again and sew all the way around it. Remember to leave an opening of about 15mm (depending on the size of your hanger) at the top of the peg bag for the hanger to come through.
Trim any excess and tie off the tails before turning the bag the right way around.
Insert the hanger through the opening and position it at the top of the bag. You can sew a securing stitch under the coathanger to keep it in place if you would like, I didn’t because the hanger was a nice fit and it really doesn’t need it.
It’s not a super pretty bag, but it’s cost me absolutely nothing to make and has kept my mind busy! I think crafts are brilliant for mental health and taking time out for yourself.

I bought a peg bag last year because it was reduced and still paid a couple of quid for it. The full price one’s were about £7 and that was from B&M so not like it’s anywhere fancy. lol So expensive x

I also need a new peg bag as I left mine hanging on the washing line and one of the squirrels that visits my garden ate a big hole out of it and took the material away for their nest!
