Having young children in our family and a husband who has to regular check his temperature to keep on top of any possible signs of rejection to his new heart, we make it one our top priorities to have a thermometer in our first aid kit.

And of course as winter draws near the chances of getting a cold or fever are more likely.

We have always used the standard digital thermometers, the one you place under the armpit.

Until we were asked to try out the new Braun Thermoscan 7 that is.

This ear thermometer is very clever as it is age adjustable to the user.

age settings

Once you have chosen the desired age range, pop on a lens filter and gentle put into the ear and press the thermometer button.

It reads the temperature in just 2 seconds so you can get a quick and accurate reading causing as little stress as possible to little ones. Infact that has to be my favourite feature of all, as ours takes for ever to register a reading and of course the kids can get restless waiting especially my 11 month old.

It has an easy to follow colour indicator system for readings

Green – Normal

Yellow – Elevated

Red – High

My 5 year old was quite happy to have his temperature checked, and as you can see by the display, his temperature was fine and the green screen indicated this also as a ‘normal’ reading.

Just pop a new lens filter on the end of the thermometer on each use.

You get a box of 20 lens filters included and can purchase more from major retailers such as Amazon and Boots.

The cool bits

  • Colour coded results for easier readings
  • Age Precision Technology
  • Hygienic disposable lens filters
  • Night Light. Ideal for when little one is in bed
  • Stores the last 9 readings for comparison

It is a very accurate and efficient way of detecting high temperatures and fevers and I would certainly recommend.

You can purchase The Braun ThermoScan 7 for RRP £44.99 at Boots, Amazon, Asda, Tesco, John Lewis, Mothercare, Kiddicare and Argos.
