I love making these printables, and I’ve put together a cute two-page printable to spark some imaginative play. The first sheet features an outdoor backdrop and the second page is full of camping-themed accessories ready to be cut out and stuck onto the scene.

Benefits of Cutting Out Shapes

Here are just a few ways that cutting out activities can benefit a child.

  1. Fine Motor Skill Development
Using scissors helps strengthen the small muscles in the hands and fingers, which are important for writing, dressing and using utensils.
  2. Hand-Eye Coordination
Cutting along lines and around shapes encourages kids to coordinate what they see with how their hands move.
  3. Improves Concentration and Focus
Staying within lines or working on a more detailed shape requires attention and patience, which helps boost a child’s ability to focus on tasks.
  4. Encourages Independence
As kids master cutting, they gain a sense of achievement and confidence in doing things on their own.
  5. Teaches Spatial Awareness
Understanding how shapes fit together on a page helps develop spatial reasoning, a skill useful in maths and problem-solving.

Extend the Activity with Storytelling

Once your child has completed their camping scene, why not encourage them to make up a story about the characters in the picture. Who’s camping in the tent? What might happen around the campfire? This adds a creative storytelling element that boosts language development.
