You might not think of your bathroom as a room that can be chic or stylish. Most bathrooms are pretty much the same, with a plain, basic design. If you prefer a bit more drama in your decor, then there’s no reason that you can’t bring the glamour in this room too. Here are some ideas to add some dramatic decor elements to the bathroom.
Bring the colour
Bathrooms often use the same safe range of colours, using a lot of white, grey, green, or blue. If your preferred palette is something more unusual, then there’s no reason you can’t do this in the bathroom too. You can use any colour you like, with paint, tiles, or wall panelling. Whatever colours you like best, use them in the bathroom. If you want to experiment with bold colours even more, then you’ll find a range of bright vanity units at 34 St John, which will add an even bigger pop to your bathroom.
Forget the traditional suite
Most people have a plain white bathroom suite. While white is a good idea if you’re planning to sell your house in the future, it’s not very exciting. You could bring some drama by choosing something different. Black or slate grey sinks have become very popular recently, and a black bath would make a serious statement. Sinks made from something other than traditional ceramic, like glass or marble, would add impact too. If you do want to stick with white, you can still add glamour with a sink in an interesting shape, or a gorgeous roll-top, or a clawfoot bath.
Change the fittings
If you don’t have the cash for a new bathroom suite, then you can still change the style quite a lot by changing your fittings. New taps can make your bathroom look much more stylish. Buy new, or look out for fittings in junkyards or antique shops if your style is more vintage.
Fill it with plants
To be totally on-trend, embrace your inner plant mum. Greenery is a clever way to dress up your bathroom, which is often a room where it’s hard to decorate with more traditional ornaments. Choose plants that do well in damp, humid conditions. Spider plants and succulents are popular for bathrooms. Pile them onto the windowsill, on top of cabinets, or on the edge of the bath.
Get rid of boring packaging
If you’ve put loads of effort into making your bathroom look amazing, why ruin your efforts with dull, tacky packaging from your toiletries stacked around the shower or the sink? Instead, buy some beautiful items like soap dispensers, soap dishes, and bottles and decant your toiletries. They’ll look much more glamorous sitting on the edge of the sink than that plastic bottle of handwash. This makes the things you need part of the decor and makes your bathroom feel a lot chicer.
Your bathroom doesn’t have to be boring. Make the most of colour and dramatic decor details to make it much more interesting. Whether you’re in there putting on your makeup or relaxing in the bath, making your bathroom a room you love instead of one that is just functional will let you enjoy it a lot more.
Oh I like the idea of plants in the bathroom, I have never really thought to have them in there and I do love plants.
Ooo la la – loving your ideas – my bathroom could do with a revamp
