glamorous wallpaper

I love decorating. There is nothing better than walking into a freshly decorated room. It feels instantly brighter, fresher than before.
We have decorated many rooms in different houses over the years. We have recently moved again into a beautiful house alongside a lock and we already have plans for the interiors.

Wallpapering seems to be less popular than painting now. I think this may be because wallpapering can be the most daunting job when it comes to DIY, especially if you haven’t experimented with it much. It is really quite simple to hang wallpaper though and there are so many different how-to videos online that make learning how to become a paper-pro a doddle!

Wallpaper might appear to be a little bit more expensive solution to painting a room. When you factor in how long wallpaper lasts though it actually works out cheaper to decorate with wallpaper. The biggest advantage of using wallpaper is that if your walls are not quite perfect, wallpapering will save you having to repair the walls to make them look amazing.

There are so many different designs and styles of wallpaper nowadays that it is impossible not to find something that is perfect for you. The only issue is that the choice may be overwhelming. Here are a few tips that I find will help make choosing the right wallpaper a little less stressful!

Imperfections?

If having your walls replastered isn’t an option, then you could choose a textured wallpaper which is fab for covering walls with imperfections. If the walls are in quite a bad way then you could use lining paper. This will make an ideal base for your wallpaper to adhere to.

Wanting To Make The Room Appear Bigger?

Looking back at our previous house where the rooms were much smaller, horizontal stripes can widen a room no end!
I think avoiding busy patterns in small spaces is probably the best thing to do. They can overpower a small room making it look even smaller.

Make A Statement With A Feature Wall

A feature wall is a great way to create a colourful focal point. The choices of wallpaper are endless for a feature wall and as it is a smaller area to decorate it is less likely to clash with other things in the room. Florals are a nice choice or even geo patterns.

Decorating a Childs Room?

After having experienced the doodling on walls with both of my boys, I think the best wallpaper for a child’s bedroom is something that can be wiped down if need be. You can also buy wallpaper that is intended for scribbling on that looks similar to a chalkboard.

Renting Not Buying?

When you rent a house as we do, it doesn’t have to feel like you can’t put your own mark on your home. Obviously you have to respect the landlord, making sure that you leave the property in a good condition. Strippable wallpaper is a fantastic choice if you ever need to remove the wallpaper leaving no trace on the walls. As long as you use the correct adhesive, you can simply peel the wallpaper back off the walls in complete lengths.

Do you have any DIY plans coming up?

  1. I’ve lived through many decades including the ’70’s. Yup there is good and bad with wallpaper just like everything else in the world. Old fashioned wallpaper wasn’t strippable and it took steam and lots of time to remove. Strippable wallpaper is easier to remove – still a chore but much easier. I did wallpaper in the bath in the 80’s and in the bedroom in the 90’s. Unless the new owner hates them, they are probably still up and looking good. The key thing to remember is to choose classic patterns and colors – not what is the latest fad. Otherwise you have an 80’s bathroom and 90’s bedroom in 2020. #MMBC happy Monday Jayne!
