We are really enjoying being Bandai Ambassadors and have had some really cool STEM kits to explore. Last month we discovered Geodes, and the month previous we had dinosaur fossils and real bug dig kits.  This month we have been kindly sent the National Geographic STEM Crystal Lab and Sea Monkeys.

National Geographic Crystal Lab Age 8+

With this fascinating science experiment you can grow your very own glowing crystals.

What you get in the box –

  • Growing powder
  • Seed rock
  • Stirring stick
  • Flourite crystal
  •  Learning guide

Before we go any further, this kit contains chemicals hence this being for children age 8 years+. Supervision is recommended at all times.
Due to the nature of this experiment, we set this up in our outhouse. It will be safe from Joben’s curious hands and away from food sources.

The kit is really easy to use. You will need a plastic cup or glass to grow the crystal in. We boiled some water and added the growing powder. We waited 15 minutes or so until the water cooled enough to be able to add the seed rock. We have left ours to stand for 2 days now and you can already see the crystals forming. The longer you leave the solution the more crystals will form. I will pop an update on here when there are more crystals present.

Sea Monkeys Ocean-Zoo Age 5+

This is another experiment that is going to take some time for you to see any results. You can grow your very own little gang of sea monkeys with this little teeny tiny aquarium!

What’s included?

  • Instant live eggs
  • Water purifier
  • Food
  • Feeding spoon
  • Aquarium

First, we added water to our aquarium. Tap water will be fine as you will add water purifier next. After we filled with water and added the sachet of water purifier we left the aquarium to settle. The next day we added the sachet of live eggs. We gently stirred the water each day as stated, to oxygenate the tank. On the fourth day, we noticed our eggs had hatched and there were lots of little sea monkeys swimming around. When the water starts to evaporate, you then top up with bottled water.

You can observe the tiny sea monkeys through the magnifying portals on the side of the aquarium, but when we did so this morning, sadly our Sea Monkeys went to Sea Monkey heaven! So we are going to try again with the remainder of the eggs and see what happens.

If purchased via the Amazon links, I will get a small commission.

  1. Ahh! My two love Sea Monkeys. They’ve had a few sets over the years and ours seemed to last forever. The last set we had there was one huge one left after a good few months. lol
These look like great sets. Fun and educational x

  2. I think these are my favourite. Love crystal growing, but sea monkeys are fab. We had some that lasted for months. Especially one large one which had been named Voldemort. I love watching them swim. #MMBC
