I am all for getting the kids outside to play and now summer is well and truly upon us we are outside more than ever. The sun is shining, paddling pools are out in force and toys are scattered across the lawn and the kids are having a blast. There are just so many benefits from outdoor play, here are just a few.
We all know that being in the sunshine helps our skin to naturally absorb vitamin D. This vitamin plays a crucial part in keeping teeth, bones and muscles healthy. So a good enough reason right there to get outside and start having fun!

Encourages Kids To Get Active
We all know how our kids like their screen time, my two are no exception. I have to monitor their time on tech toys as they would simply play on them all day if they could. Getting outdoors encourages kids to put down their iPads and gaming consoles and get active. Having more space to run around outside gives kids the chance to burn off their energy and burn more calories. There are all sorts of ways to get your kids active. You could make up your own little assault course for them to complete, chalk a simple hopscotch on the patio, set up a net across the garden and play tennis or even better, a trampoline!
Trampolines are a great way to promote fitness and are brilliant to improve balancing skills. We have an 8ft Sportspower trampoline which is suitable for 6 years+. My youngest is not old enough to use this yet, so we are investing in a smaller one for him. There are various sizes available from 6ft-14ft! These have to be the most fun way to spend a sunny afternoon in the garden.
It’s The Best Learning Resource You Will Ever Find
In my opinion, nature and the good old outdoors is the best classroom your child will ever walk into. From scavenger hunts in the woods collecting bits for crafts, birdwatching in the garden learning all of the different species that visit and geocaching (something we haven’t tried yet, but know of plenty that do who really enjoy it. These are just a handful of ideas of which kids can learn from being outdoors. Exploring is fun whatever age and imaginations can go wild with all of the sights and sounds that are just on the other side of our doors.
