Being a home schooling family, we are always looking for new, fun ways to educate our boys. Both my husband and I were taught at a conventional high school and received good grades. However, it regularly amazes us how there are so many more great ways to learn now than when we were at school.
Consoles and Gadgets for every day life
We regularly smile about how now in a generation of PS4 and Xbox one, we were happy with Atari 2600 and Sega Mega-drive! And since then a whole host of different technology has been introduced that enables learning to be more interactive, fun and engaging. My kids can work most i-products and have done from a very young age! I use them daily for my blogging too.
Apps for everything!
Apps have become an interactive learning experience. Many of which you can compare your progress with friends, making learning more social. Gamification has made learning fun, using strategies that you learn in games that can be applied in real life situations. Playing guitar hero is proven to aid you create more memorable and intricate passwords, as well as improve hand eye co-ordination. Who would have thought that?! I also use a whole range of apps for my blogging, they help keep me organised and productive.
Resources at our finger tips
We are constantly striving to try new things. Whether they are hobbies or work related. Whenever we find something that we would like to try, the good old fashioned way would be to enrol on a course. Now we just search the internet for tutorials and teach ourselves! From Website building right down to cool crafts, there is a tutorial for everything.
We use websites specifically aimed at educators, either home schooling or national curriculum to assist us to teach our sons. For a small subscription, it is amazing how many resources are available and what a fantastic quality they are.
