10 WordPress Plugins that will put some serious oomph into your blog
Since I swapped over to self hosting I have never looked back.
The one thing I love about WP is the huge selection of plugins! Plugins for this plugins for that, just amazbles.
If you are just starting out it can be really daunting where to start, so I have compiled a list of plugins that I think are pretty awesome and will hopefully help you too.
1. Yoast SEO – Fully optimises your site for search engines and helps make your posts SEO friendly
2. Jetpack – This is crammed full of useful tools and features. You can see your stats, social sharing, email subscriptions, security, custom css and loads more.
3. Akismet – Protects your blog from that dreaded spam!
4. WP Draftsforfriends – This is fab! I came across this thanks to the lovely Stevie from A Cornish Mom, who also uses this plugin. It enables you to share a draft post to friends or PR companies before the post is published. I really like this one.
5. Add This – A great set of sharing buttons for your blog/site with lots of options.
6. WordPress Editorial Calendar – I like to try and be organised where I can and this does just this, it helps organise all of your posts in one place. Just drag and drop your posts, edit, line up your draft posts so they don’t get lost and forgotten about. It is a must in my opinion.
7. Mail Poet – A really easy to use subscription service for your readers.
8. Missed Schedule Fix WP Failed Future posts – There has been a few times my scheduled posts have not published at the time I have set, only to get the message “missed schedule” (thanks for that) but with this plugin your post will still go live. A great timesaver.
9. BackUpWordpress – A simple automated back up.
10. CommentLuv – I’ve been using this for a few weeks now. It enables people who comment on your blog to show their most recent post.

This is really useful, thank you! I’ve just moved over to self hosted but didn’t realise just how much work it was going to be – I just wanted a nicer theme! Loving Yeost and Jet pack but there’s a few here I want to try out too.

Hi Jayne, I use all of these plugins apart from the WP Draft for friends and the missed schedule fixer (must check them out). Yoast SEO is a must have Plugin as it really helps me to optimize my posts better, without it I think I would be lost.

Great list as I too have recently gone self-hosted and I’m overwhelmed by the amount of plugins available now! I have most of the above and use regularly however I haven’t seen the ‘missed schedule fix’ plugin and it looks useful so I will be having a look at that one. Thank you!

Sounds a good list – and even as a non-Wordpress user I’ve even heard of some of them. I’ve never used WordPress opting for Blogger when I started, the whole plugin thing put me off but if I’d had a list like this, who knows?! Thanks for linking up to #pocolo
