In today’s world, screens are everywhere… schools, houses, work… you name it. Heck – you’re reading this on a screen right now. You might wonder how much screen time is too much for both you and your kids. UNICEF mentions that too much screen time might lead to shorter attention spans and lower empathy and I’m sure that, depending on the age of the person, it can have other negative impacts.
I think new technologies have a lot to offer but it’s good to, every now and then, take a step back and enjoy family time without screens. There are thousands of different activities you can enjoy with your family – from indoor activities to outdoor activities.
You might not know this but one of my favourite off-screen activities is snooker. Snooker is a fun game that I’ve played since university with friends and when the kids started being old enough to play, I sure introduced them to the sport. If you’ve never played snooker you might not know much about it. There’s much more to snooker than what it looks like.
The benefits of playing snooker
- Improve focus and concentration
- Increase hand-and-eye coordination
- Improve cognitive skills
- Improve problem-solving skills
- Improves ability to assess and manage risk
- Healthy competition
Snooker is much more than potting colourful balls on a table. This sport comes hand-in-hand with a wide range of advantages that can you and your family can benefit from. Recently, I’ve been looking at adding a Hamilton Billiards snooker table to my spare room to create a family games room. What do you think?
Not long ago, DIY Daddy Blog shared the reasons why he thought that a snooker table was a good addition to any house, and I couldn’t agree more with his blog post. From the benefits of playing snooker to calling a snooker table a future family heirloom. Snooker tables are pieces of art that can be passed down from generation to generation.
Bespoke snooker tables
You might think that a snooker table is large and would never fit in your home. Think again! Have you seen snooker dining tables? Rice Cakes and Raisins shared that Hamilton Billiards, as a member of The Guild of Master Craftsmen, they can create stunning bespoke snooker tables. “Hamilton Billiards can create custom snooker tables in various sizes, from 6ft snooker tables to 8ft snooker tables and even snooker dining tables.”
Who has space for a full size snooker table? I wish I did. However, the idea of a snooker dining table sounds great. A stunning handmade table where you can have dinner and, after dinner, play a couple of games of snooker on top. What do you think of snooker and snooker dining tables?
We used to have a snooker table and it did help steady my hands and eye coordination. A bit like chess, it helped me think ahead and be more strategic. Sadly it’s been years since I’ve played and now I’m terrible again. Now we’ve moved to a smaller house in London, it is impossible to even think about a non foldable table, let alone a snooker table
We used to have one in our garage growing up
Was used by family and friends
No room for one now
