Best Ways To Experience Nature With Your Child

This summer, you could discover the many things you can do outdoors that don’t require you to spend any money and can keep your child entertained for hours. You could reap the benefits of the wonders that nature has to offer, by simply exploring your local nature areas, going out in your garden, participating in a community project such as a Kiddi Caru gardening and sunflower competition, or doing some nature crafts.  

There are so many ways that you can experience nature with your child, that are enriching, creative and a whole lot of fun! So, to give you some inspiration, we’ve provided you with some ideas, so you can set off and make the most of your natural surroundings. 

Go Tree Spotting

We owe a lot to our trees — they provide us with oxygen, store carbon, shelter and feed our wildlife. Since trees are one of the most vital living organisms in our ecosystem, it’s important that your child learns about the role that they play in nature, so that they learn to respect their environment. Luckily, there are plenty of trees around, so you won’t have to go far to spot one! Why not print out a tree species activity like the Woodland Trust’s Leaf ID sheet, which will enable your child to identify specific tree species by their leaves’ characteristics.
You could even do some bark rubbing.

Explore Some Beautiful grounds

There are so many beautiful locations here in the UK. Some of which are totally free to visit. As we really enjoy the outdoors and incorporate it into our home schooling quite often, we have memberships for The National Trust and The English Heritage. If you too love the outdoors then they are definitely worth signing up for.
They enable you to explore stunning grounds just like Sudbury Hall and Croxdon Abbey.

Do Some Nature Crafts

Whilst on your tree-spotting adventure, the leaves that you find might just be too beautiful to leave lying on the ground. Why not collect them, take them home and make a glorious leaf collage masterpiece like ours! Or you could help your child to paint a picture of a lion and use the leaves as a majestic mane. Let their creativity run wild and make something special. 

If you’re lucky enough to have a beach nearby, you could also collect some shells which you can use in your crafts. If you have an old photo frame lying around, you and your child could give it a new lease of life by sticking these seaside treasures to it. What’s more, to remember your seaside adventure, you could place inside it, a picture that you took on the beach that day!

Make A Den

Why not head into the woods on an adventure and see if you can find enough natural materials on the ground to make yourselves a den. You’ll need some sturdy long branches, lots of sticks and leaves, twigs or grass to use to cover your den. Make sure that your child doesn’t snap the branches from the trees, in order to preserve them.

You could make a den in the style of a tepee by propping some sturdy branches against a tree, or against one another. Make sure that they’re secure so that they don’t end up falling and hurting anyone. You can make the den even more sturdy by using the small bendy sticks that you found, weaving them in and out of the walls of your structure.
