If you pop by regularly then you will know that we homeschool our clan. We are no stranger to STEM activities and do quite a lot in our home-ed sessions. There are so many fab STEM toys and kits available now, learning science, technology, engineering and mathematics has never been so fun.
Recently we were sent the Engineering Makerspace Off-Road Rovers from the guys at Thames & Kosmos and we have been busy building some cool vehicles.
Thames & Kosmos have a wonderful range of STEM activities including Kinetic Machines, Geared Up Gadgets, Alien Robots and of course our kit – Off-Road Rovers.
Ten models to build
You can build ten different off-road vehicles an machines with this kit. You get a handy little guide included which is great to use as a reference when building your chosen project. The guide is easy to follow and has illustrations showing you what part to add and where. There are also experiments that you can do with your finished build too.
Building the ATV
Jayden already has quite a collection of buildable kits so he was very keen to get stuck in. He decided to go with the ATV 4WD first.
The pieces are simple to connect together and Jayden soon got stuck in while following the guide.
A battery powered motor box powers each model. So not only can the ATV 4WD be displayed afterwards, it can be taken outside to be played with too. Each model is adapted to suit different terrains, so these can be tested out once built.

Since completing our ATV Jayden has gone on to build the Belt Sander, Future Truck, Band Saw Machine and the Paper Plane Launcher. I think for just £24.50 these kits are fabulous value. You not only get a good choice of what to build, but children can also explore motion, energy, levers and physics of force.
They are very cool educational toys and they get a big thumbs up from our gang!

There are so many STEM kits now and they all look great, this especially! It looks like Jayden had fantastic fun with it!
