The Remedy To A Good Night’s Sleep

As all parents can probably relate, after having little ones, sleep kind of takes a back seat. What with night time feeds, coughs and colds and restless nights, sleep can become a distant memory. So when I do actually get the chance to get some rest, I am more than ready for my bed.

When we changed our mattress, I slept considerably better than before. My backs not in knots every morning as it was prior to changing it. And the one thing that really makes me feel all content and snuggly whilst lying in bed, is listening to the rain. There’s something very soothing to it I think. This got me thinking what others find comforting to help them fall into the land of nod., So I asked some fellow family bloggers what did it for them!

Amy – Amy And Tots 

I have to listen to the clock ticking to get to sleep. The battery went in it one night and I searched through a load of apps to try and find the same tick. Luckily I found it.

 

Kirsty – Life With Boys

Before a had my baby, I couldn’t sleep with any noise whatsoever in a room, my partner snoring was enough to have me sleeping on the couch. Since my son was born though, I cannot get to sleep without the sounds of white noise. It’s obviously supposed to be useful for newborns, but he’s indifferent to it and now I’m hooked.

I actually find the dulcet tones of Ewan the Sheep quite soothing since having Baby Lighty!!

 

Katie – Mami To Five

My brain doesn’t switch off when I’m laying in silence. I usually listen to something like comedy shows or podcasts so my brain is kept occupied but not something I have to watch on screen.

 

Laura – Five Little Doves

I need noise to fall asleep but my husband can’t sleep without perfect silence! I usually wait until he’s asleep and then put Netflix on the iPad! I have chronic tinnitus and silence is the worst thing for me!

 

Samantha – Porridge And Parenting

I sometimes play a sleep hypnosis thing on YouTube to help me drift off… the guys voice is really soothing but sometimes it auto plays onto less appropriate videos after it’s finished and I wake up listening to some really weird stuff.

 

Emily – Twin Mummy And Daddy

I have to have complete silence and compete darkness. I sleep with ear plugs in and an eye mask on!

 

Jenny – Midwife And Life

I use the TV, I have the sound on low and I like to put on Dave which has re-runs of QI, Mock the Week and Have I got News for You – the familiar people talking and being happy and funny sends me to sleep.

 

Kayleigh – Candyfloss And Dreams

I use audible! Love listening to an audiobook as I drift off to sleep. Although it takes me a really long time to find out what actually happens in the story!

 

Christopher – The Opinionated Dad

Mine is listening to music. If there is a good song on the radio i can fall asleep in seconds.

 

We all may have different ways of dropping off to sleep, but one thing that we all have in common is,,,,,,,,,,,, We need more of it!

    I love the sound of the rain! Our house is in a very quiet area and it is deathly silent at night, so when it is raining or windy, it’s lovely. The best night’s sleep I used to get was when we lived in West London and we were situated right on a main road. It was SO noisy but I slept like a baby! haha

    I just need to be warm enough and comfortable enough. I can sleep in silence and very low noises so as long as it’s not too loud I’m okay x

    What a fun post. I’m a pretty easy-going sleeper. I don’t think there’s any one thing I need to help me fall asleep. I do have to make sure I’ve gone in to check on my daughters before I get into bed – otherwise I can’t go to sleep. But I think that’s just the anxious Mom in me needing to go have a look. 😉

    I’ve had to resort to a hypnosis podcast in the past. Not anymore, since I had kids I’m so knackered I’m unconscious as soon as my head hits the pillow! Great advice x #bloggerclubuk

    Hi Jayne, you have just got me thinking that maybe my husband may benefit from a new mattress as his back is terrible in the morning. Will have to broach the subject. No matter what time I go to bed I always have to read, sometimes I can only manage half a page, but if I don’t read I can’t sleep.
