I used to wear glasses when I was younger to correct a lazy eye but no longer have to wear them now. I still go for my eye tests just to make sure everything is OK.
My eldest wears glasses for the same reason and Craig wears glasses too, so when we were recently asked by the brand new glasses company ichoose to try out some of their interchangeable glasses, we, of course, said yes!
At ichoose, you can buy glasses for men and women. Buying your glasses is a really simple process. Firstly you will need your prescription from the Opticians. You can use any prescription, its best to use one less than two years old. If you can’t find your prescription, most opticians will issue a copy. We are with Specsavers and as the branch we use is quite some miles away, we called and asked if they could pop Craig’s prescription out in the post. However, we learned that they will not do this, it is a strict policy that you have to go and collect it in person, so we did. On the upside, they didn’t charge for the service.
Once we had the prescription to hand, Craig went online and started to look at the different designs. The cool thing with iChoose glasses is that you can swap the sides whenever you feel like a change. There are over 10,000 different combinations so you can be sure to get the perfect look, rather than having to settle for a pair off the shelf that you are not overly happy with.
The glasses arrive in a cardboard box rolled up in a soft organiser with the frames and all of the sides that you have ordered.
The website is easy to navigate and as you select your frames and sides, it displays an image of what your selection will look like. For £60.00 you get your choice of frames plus an additional pair of sides. You can add more sides at just £10 per pair. Once you have chosen your frames and sides you choose your lenses. Single vision lenses for short or long sight are included in the price. Varifocals are also available for an additional £49.00. You then enter your prescription details, payment and delivery and wait for your new glasses to arrive.
Craig chose the Malvern design frames which are an aviator style.
The sides he chose were bright matte orange and gradient green.
The sides are super easy to change. There is a spring loaded clip on the inside of the side, you simply press the clip and the side slides off. Slide the new one onto the leg until it clicks and away you go.
These glasses are ideal if you would like a few different looks without having loads of pairs of glasses lying around. The only thing that is not perfect is that, like every pair of mail-order glasses, you do not get them adjusted to fit your face, so Craigs were a little loose. You can, of course, always pop into your local opticians who can adjust them for you for a small fee.
We like the concept of these glasses. Even if you didn’t want to use them as your main pair, they are always a fun accessory to match up to outfits for a night out.
