A Ride Down Memory Lane

A Ride Down Memory Lane

I spent yesterday afternoon going through old documents and paperwork and having a general sort out. Whilst I was doing so I came across all of our old photo albums. Well, you know what it is like, hours pass by like minutes when you start browsing through them. My aim is to get some photo books made and fill them with all of our favourite snaps.

Giddy Up!

When I was younger I used to love horse riding. I often went on treks with one of best friends, Anna. I used to go and stay at her relatives’ farm most weekends and we would spend our days either playing on the hay bales, running across the fields or riding one of the horses, from ponies to shire horses.

I was 9 here and riding Harvey the pony.

It was so fun on the farm. We would get up each morning, have our breakfast and then head to the chicken coop to collect the eggs. Sometimes we would be challenged by the rooster and the bold as brass geese! They used to terrify me, my little legs had never moved so fast as they chased us across the fields.

Then it was our favourite time of day where we would go a nice ride up the country tracks with the horses. When we returned, we would spend ages with the horses, mucking out their stables and brushing their silky soft coats. Sometimes they would have their Harry Hall fly rugs on in the warmer weather, depending on the time of year really. It was just awesome to look after all of the animals and share lots of memories with one of my very good friends.

My eldest loved looking through the photos with me and they have inspired him to want to try horse riding too. I think we will book him up on a local trek to see if he likes it as much as I did, although not quite sure how that will pan out!

Ahh! I lived on a farm when I was a child/teen and it was always so much fun. I had a pony just like the one in your photo. He was a little devil who figured out that if he went trotting under branches they would knock me off. hehehe
It is so easy to get lost in photo albums. We can lose hours. x

Similar age, I had a best friend called Jane, who had horses. Oh the adventures too. So many memories. They had geese, being fattened up. I might just dig out some of those photos and lose a few hours too. #MMBC

A time before the obsession with screens and all the better for it if you ask me. I want to do something with my old photos too but never get round to it with everything else going on. You transported me through this post to a visit to an Irish farm when my brother was training to be a priest as he lived there for a while (and the priest thing never did work out in the end!) and also to horse-riding on a holiday with the Brownies. Thank you! #MMBC

Wow, that sounds wonderful. Possibly with the exception of the geese!
