Decor Tips For Creating A Movie Set Inspired Home

Have you always wanted to create an interior design for your home that is inspired by some of your favourite TV shows and films? Well, you might be happy to hear that it is incredibly easy to do. Especially when you have all of the following tips to help you out.

Lighting Is Everything

The key to filming the perfect scene, whether it is for a small independent film or a huge HBO TV series, is to get the lighting just right. Directors and art directors always use a scene’s lighting to help tell a story. For example, if they want to create a moody and dramatic scene, then they will try and dim the lights. So, you need to make sure that you choose the right lighting for your room’s purpose and ambiance. Practical rooms, such as the kitchen and bathroom, need to be well lit so that you can see exactly what you are doing when you are preparing food or doing your makeup. However, the bedroom and your living room don’t have to be quite so bright. You might even want to add some dimmer lights so that you can you can turn down the lights whenever you want to relax in the evenings.

Think About Set Props

As well as lighting, props play a big part in any type of film set. And this is especially the case on the sets of period dramas. If a set designer places a piece of furniture or a decorative item that would not have come from that specific period of time, then it will ruin the overall look of the set. So, if you are thinking of creating a retro, vintage, or period-style room in your house, be very careful about the items you choose to decorate it with. You can’t go wrong with a wooden dining table for a vintage-inspired dining room, for example. Wooden furniture looks very antique, and you can be sure that it would have been around a few hundred years ago. Just be sure to check the design to make sure it doesn’t look too contemporary.

Make A Big Statement

Most film and TV sets are very memorable because they have a unique design and style. Plus, most of them feature something that acts as a statement. This might be an accent wall or a very unusual piece of furniture that really helps the set stand out in a very memorable way. One of the easiest ways you can do this in your home is to make an accent wall in each room. There are various ways this can be achieved, but the best thing to do is to paint the wall a different shade to all the others. Alternatively, you could apply some different wallpaper. There are lots of great tips to help you create an accent wall in online guides. If you want to make a statement in your room with a unique piece of furniture, then it’s a good idea to invest in some high-quality pieces. Plus, it’s important that you don’t go too over the top with them. Sure, you want them to make a statement, but you don’t want them to look completely out of place in your room.

Make Space For Your Entrance

One of the most important of any film set is that it needs to be spacious enough for the actors and actresses to walk around and perform in. There can’t be any clutter or excess furniture. Otherwise, they might end up tripping over, which will spoil the whole scene! And this is also the case for your rooms in your home as well. You can’t place too much furniture or decorative items in them as you will really struggle to walk around. Ideally, all of your rooms should be very roomy and free from any potential tripping hazards. If you find that you have too many pieces of furniture in your rooms, you might have to lose a few pieces. Don’t worry. There is a silver lining to this – you can actually make some money if you sell them rather than simply chucking them out! And then, once you empty your rooms out, you will find that you have plenty of space to move around and even perform if you feel like it!

So, there you have it. Creating your very own film set inspired home is actually incredibly easy to do! Which film or TV show do you think you will try and recreate?
