Recently the lovely people from The Gro Company sent us the all different Gro-hush to put to the test.
Gro-hush is their new concept that uses white noise to soothe baby, so lets see what it is all about.
All about the Gro-Hush
The Gro-hush is a light weight handheld unit with a elasticated strap which slips comfortably onto your hand. It has three tones which are a heartbeat (familiar sound to baby when in the womb), rainfall and waves. They are prompted by the three buttons on top and each illuminate when in use. The sounds automatically turn off after 10 minutes and can only be heard by baby. The only concern I had before use was ‘is the volume safe for my baby’s tiny ears’? However the answer to that is yes. It is set to a safe level of 75 decibals and can not be changed. It has a soft jersey cover, which is machine washable at 40 degrees and runs off three AAA batteries.
Proof is in the Pudding
As you can see by the pics of little pudding the Gro-hush was quite effective. He certainly responded to the noises especially the waves, I found. It is a handy little tool to help aid baby to relax along with
lots of mommy cuddles of course. This should not be used to mask the need for feeds. This should be used to help settle and calm your little one. Ideally when not hungry. I tested this at home, but this
can be used whilst you are out and about and comes with a convenient sized case to pop into your bag. The case also protects the buttons when not in use helping prolong the battery life.
Facts & Stats
From the study ‘White Noise and Sleep Induction’ by J.A.D Spencer, D J Moran, A Lee, D Talbert at the Institute of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Royal Post graduate Medical school, Queen Charlotte’s and Chelsea Hospital London.
In a study of two groups 0f 20 neonates, between 2 and 7 days old. In a randomised trial they found that sixteen (80%) fell asleep within 5 minutes in response to white noise compared with only five (25%) spontaneously in the control group.
The study showed that when exposed to white noise, the likelihood of a baby falling to sleep is increased more than three fold (25% – 80%).
The Gro-Hush seems to be proving quite popular with parents and I think it is a great comfort provider to help your baby relax. You can purchase your very own at majority of major baby product retailers for £34.99. You can also purchase it from The Gro Company Website .
